Buying jewelry through the Internet?
But then I can’t feel the jewelry nor can I try it on.
Yes you can. Not on the website, but in the comfort and privacy of your own home. For instance, at home you have close to hand all your clothes that the jewelry may have to match, or you can see what the piece of jewelry looks like with a variety of clothes. In brief, at home you have more room, time and opportunity to look in the mirror for as long as you want.
What if I don’t like a particular piece of jewelry? Can I return it?
Yes, of course. If you are not completely happy with the jewelry, for whatever reason, you can return it. But then you are responsible for paying the return postage (registered post with insurance). We will reimburse you as soon as we get the jewelry back.
Jewelry made specially to the customer’s order or modified or made to measure at the customer’s request cannot be returned.
For the details, please check our Return policy on this page.
Can I have my order delivered to another address?
Yes, you can fill in different addresses for invoice and delivery, if you please.
What kind of payment options do you offer?
We accept the following credit cards: American Express, MasterCard and Visa.
If you are resident in the Netherlands, you can always pay via i-Deal, which connects you through to your own bank’s payment site. You can also use PayPal.

Do you use eco-friendly gold?
There is a rapidly growing number of consumers who are conscious about the environment. For this reason we purchase all of our gold stock from a company that receives their gold as scrap from goldsmiths, the dental industry and from the electronics/computer industry. Unlike gold mining, this recycling and refining process does not harm communities, workers and the environment.
Do you use conflict-free diamonds?
All the diamonds we purchase are guaranteed to be ethically mined and cut.
How do I know if it really is gold or silver?
Our jewelry carries the hallmarks of the Waarborg in Gouda that are obligatory in the Netherlands. Our maker’s mark K/P (Kerkstra/Pannekoek) is also on all our jewelry.
For an extensive description of hallmarks and maker’s marks, please visit the Waarborg website at the following link: www.waarborg.nl
What exactly is 14 and 18 carat gold?
Gold is a wonderful material, valuable and durable. But gold on its own is too soft to work with. In order to make the gold harder, it is often mixed with other metals – for instance silver, copper or palladium. The whole mixture of metals is known as an alloy.
The gold content of the alloy is given in carats. Carat is a number that indicates how much gold is in an alloy as a fraction of twenty-four, 24 carat gold being pure gold. So 14 carat gold is an alloy consisting of 14/24ths gold, with 10/24ths being silver or some other metal. And 18 carat gold consists of 18/24ths pure gold and 6/24ths another metal. Expressed in decimals, 0.585 stands for 14 carat and 0.750 for 18 carat gold. We use 14, 18 and 24 carat gold for our jewelry. All our pieces carry the hallmarks obligatory under Dutch law and our own maker’s mark K/P (which stands for Kerkstra/Pannekoek)
What is white gold and red gold?
Pure gold is too soft for making jewelry. Other metals are added to the gold to make it harder so that the jewelry does not distort or wear out. These other metals are usually copper, silver and palladium. They are also used to produce different colors of gold. The metals added in an alloy not only change the hardness but also the color: the more copper is added, the redder the gold. Yellow gold is obtained by alloying gold, copper and silver.
The white gold that we use consists of 20% palladium, a metal that belongs to the platinum group and is thus itself a precious metal.
What if the size is wrong?
If the size is wrong, you can let us know by sending an e-mail within 7 days of receiving the jewelry to: info@thejewelrystory.com We will then let you know whether it is possible to change the size. If this proves to be possible, you can return the jewelry to us within 7 days of receiving our response. The costs of returning the jewelry are borne by the customer. The jewelry must be returned via registered post with insurance, otherwise precious metals are not insured. As soon as we receive the piece of jewelry that is the wrong size, we start work to make it the correct size for you. For all the details about the right size, please take a look at Sizes on this page. Jewelry made specially to the customer’s order or modified or made to measure at the customer’s request cannot be returned.
